THE CANDIDATES DEBATE by Deen
This article is about the debate for presidency between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney at Hofstra University in Hempstead New York. This debate is being moderated by Candy Crowley who works at CNN News. She is the first Woman in more than twenty years to run it. The questions are being asked by the local men and woman who still haven’t decided who to vote for. For instance one student that was there was Jeremy Epstein from Hofstra University who asked what will they do to help him and other students find a job when they graduate from Hofstra University or any other school.
Each candidate gave their answer Mitt Romney said that he would make it easier for kids to be able to afford good colleges and good schools. Also when they get out of school they would find good jobs. He also mentioned the scholarship program he created in Massachusetts when he was governor. The program would help top students get free tuition so they would be able to go to good schools and get good educations.
The president told Jeremy his future is bright because he’s in school and wants a good education for himself. The president also told Jeremy about the jobs he created in his first term as president and he also said that he wants to build more manufacturing jobs in the United States so that there would be more jobs to go around. The President Barack Obama and the Governor Mitt Romney also answered other question about taxes, gun control, better work places and the economy.
What I found interesting about this article is that the questions are being asked by the local men and women regular people like us. They had a chance to ask about things that they needed answered and to know about. I think that was a good idea. I think that would help them decided who to vote for.

A Frozen Wonder by Michael
October, 8th 2012 an 11year old boy named Jenya went for a walk around his house in northern Siberia. Suddenly he comes across animal bones sticking out of the ice, so his parents call scientists. The scientists were surprised to find a well preserved wooly mammoth! They think the mammoth was about sixteen years old when it died. The mammoth was really small for its age, but the scientists think it died because it was missing a tusk. It may not have been able to fight. There is even a possibility that humans killed it because there is a crack on its remaining tusk. Although the mammoth was stuck in the permafrost for 20, 000 to 30, 000 years some of its organs are still intact!
I picked this article because I love science, so I was extremely excited to find out that a mammoth was found recently. Scientists haven’t found such a well preserved wooly mammoth in about a hundred years. I also thought Jenya was a lucky kid, I mean, imagine if you walked outside and suddenly you came across something prehistoric! Some scientists think someday they will create a real living version of the beast. They may be able to by cloning its DNA. However I think it is best to keep the dead, dead.

The Debate Song by Drexel
The debate was great,
The audience got to participate.
To me you see the candidates got to
Talk about telling what they thought.
The people wanted to know about,
How the candidates were going to go about … leading them forward.
They both did explain their positions again.
When it’s November and your 18 please remember to put on your coat
And yes, always to VOTE!!!
“I am Drexel Osborne and I approve this message!”

Writing About the News by Danny
The article I read was about an NHL player named Alex Ovechkin. The article talked about how he was playing in a Russian league game and he smashed a panel of glass with his head and it shattered. Normally in the interview room news reporters would ask a player how they felt or how they were doing after a hit like that. The Russian reporters were more interested in asking Ovechkin about the NHL lockout than his head.
When Alex Ovechkin broke the glass, he was not in the NHL. He was playing for a Russian league. He was playing for a Russian league because the NHL is in the process of a lockout. A lockout is a time when the players, owners of teams, and owners of the rinks get into a big argument about money. They do this because the players want more money than what they make now, which is on average is about 120,000 dollars.
All NHL teams play 82 games in a season. Every game that is canceled, the players lose what they would make during that game. The owners have tried to reason with the Players Association several times but the players have denied them all. Each week they give an update on how many games have been canceled. Right now all NHL teams have had approximately 30 games of their season canceled out of 82.
Ovechkin plays for the Washington Capitals in the NHL and decided to play for the Russian league because he would still make money, and could still play hockey. But the money that he makes for the Russian league is less than half than he would make for the NHL.
I feel that the players need to suck it up and deal with it. Their making 120,000 dollars a game! I could buy at least 4 cars with that money, and in 4 games I could own a huge house. So if there is no NHL this year I blame the players. They went through all of this back in 2004-2005 causing the entire season to be cancelled and haven’t learned anything from it. I really like watching hockey and every season I go to at least two games.
I’m glad Ovechkin didn’t get hurt after that hit, but if a hit like that would knock some sense into the players, maybe a few more players need to take one for the team.

News Song by DannyMice can sing, mice can sing.
I’ve never thought of such a thing. That’s so weird, that’s so weird. You might as well be saying that they have a beard. It started singing, it started singing. At that moment my ears started ringing. One Direction, One Direction, Can’t even give the mice a correction That’s how good they are, they are super staaaars. I love mice, don’t get them confused with dice. I hate how they go squeak, squeak, squeak, Now that they can sing, I have loved them all week. Mice can sing, mice can sing. I’ve never thought of such a thing. |
