We all have favorite books. Stories that we could read multiple times and never get bored of. These books feature characters that we love, as well as characters that we love to hate. The messages of these books influence us and shape our thoughts and actions. The books we consider our favorites are ones that have a lasting impact on our lives.

This Week's Prompt:

Describe your top three favorite books.
For each book, write a brief synopsis of the story (a synopsis is an outline of the plot), but do not give away any of the surprises.
Also include a short explanation as to why each book has earned a place in your "favorites list."

Dear Ms. Kimball,
One of my top three favorite books is Esperanza Rising. It is about a girl named Esperanza who lived with her parents, grandmother, maids, and servants on a rich ranch in Mexico. But then she and her mom lose their money, and are forced to move to California and work as farmers.
When her mom get sick, Esperanza has to learn to how to help support herself and her mother.
This book is on my favorite's list because it is very interesting to read, and it's compelling.
Another book on my favorite's list is Inside Out and Back Again. It's about a girl named Ha who lived with her family in Vietnam during the war. Her family moves to the United States to escape from the war. They move from city to city then finally to Alabama where Ha's family eventually stays.
Ha has to learn to live in a new place, a new language, and how to fit in.
I like this book because it is written in poems, which I think is cool. Also, it shows how hard it is to move to a new country.
The last book on my favorite's list is Touch Blue. It's about a girl, Tess, who lives on a little island off the coast of Maine. The school that she goes to was closing down because there was not enough people going to it. Tess's mom works at the school, and if the school shuts down, their family will have to move. But instead of moving, Tess's family takes in a foster child, like many other families, so that there will be more kids going to the school. But having Aaron in the house does not go as Tess planned.
I like this book because it's really interesting to read.

Dear Ms.Kimball,

One of my top three favorite books is Wonder. This book is about a boy named August that was born with a severe birth defect. In the book he is starting at a new school. He is nervous because he does not have friends and does not know how they are going to react because he looks so different. The book is about his experience of being in the school and making friends. I really like this book because I get to see August in his life and how brave he is.

One other favorite is The Dreamer. This book is about a boy named Neftali. He is a day dreamer and he loves to read and write. He has one of the biggest imaginations you can have! A big part of the book is the struggle he has with his dad who is so strict. The reason I like the book is because it is so heart provoking and really makes you think. Neftali is also very brave just like August. I like that.

The last book I will write about will be The Seven Songs of Merlin. Merlin is a boy who is a wizard in training. He goes to do all different quests and as he completes them he gets a mark on his staff. Once he gets all seven marks he'll be a wizard. Each quest gets harder. This is one of my favorite books because Merlin is really adventurous and he always saves everyone and only fights to defend. He would even save an evil character because he doesn't believe in killing. The book is really interesting to read.

Dear Class,

The first book I will be writing about is called Savvy by Ingrid Law. It is about a girl named Mibs. When people in her family turn thirteen, there savvy, or superpower hits. Mibs is eager to learn what her savvy is, but the day before her birthday their is a terrible accident. Mibs feelings change about her Savvy, but you will have to read it to find out more. I enjoyed this book because it is filled with feelings and heart. If you haven't read it yet I would highly suggest it.

Another great book is Jake and Lily by Jerry Spinelli. It is about twins who are very close growing up. As they get older Jake finds a group of friends and he leaves Lily in the dust. This book talks about different experiences they go through. This is one of my favorites because I can relate to it as if it's a real life situation, which allowed me to understand the text really well. This is another great book and I really enjoyed reading it.

Another series I love is the Divergent series. I liked all the books in the series but I noticed something especially in Allegiant. In this story the two main characters are Tris and Tobias. In this book they have gone outside the fence and are exploring the world beyond.They were surprised by what they saw, but from my own background knowledge I thought the Author Veronica Roth was very clever. This book stood out to me because of the message at the end. I picked it up as I was reading, and I thought it was a very strong message to the readers. It was almost like a moral. I don't want to spoil anything so you will have to read the books yourself to see what exactly I'm talking about.

Dear Ms.Kimball,
My favorite book is Out of My Mind. (maybe Because of Mr.Terupt soon...)Out of my mind is my favorite book because the book is emotional and humerous. I think it is sad because Melody doesn't have the ability to walk or talk. I like how Melody finds a solution to her talking problem. She finds a amazing machine that she has to type something on a keyboard and it will come up on the screen. Similar to a computer. Something funny about the story is that her father punched the wall when he didn't get what he wanted.

Dear Mrs. Kimball,

One of my favorite book is called "The running dream" by Wendelin Van Draanen. It is about a typical high school girl with an amazing gift of running, but a tragic car accident changes her life forever. Her high school saves up enough money to buy her a running leg after she loses hers in the car crash. No matter how hard she tries she still can't force herself into thinking they will save up enough money after all it is two hundred thousand dollars just for the leg.
I like this book because threw out this whole story she is always determine to make things better, and she does. That proves that no matter how bad things can be you can still make them better.

My second favorite book is "The book thief" by Markus Zusak. It is about a young girl who's mother gives her away to a foster home. She is taken under custody by two parents who deep down inside are loving but it might not always seem that way. After a couple years a man shows up at the doorsteps pleading for a home. He was a Jew and at the time Jew's where segregated. There family takes him in and the girl, Lesiel spends most time with him in the basement.
I loved this book because Lesiel was an amazing character, after all she been through. Her brother past away and yet she still chooses to help the sick jew get through all the rough times. Lesiel knew she would end up in an awful situation but she still decided that she was going to do what she thought was the right thing. This is why this book is one of my favorites.

For the last book my all time favorite is called "Cherub." by Robert Muchamore. It is about an extraordinary kid named James who has a gift of figuring out problems in just seconds. After his mother dies he is sent to an undercover society of kids. James is picked to do missions he never dreamed of doing. But there is only one thing getting in his way. Basic training! It is basically a test for ten months you need to accomplish in order to go on any missions.
I liked this book because James meets some amazing people who really bring the book together. Kerry is one of his goo friends and if it weren't for her James probably wouldn't have even made through one day of basic training. Kerry is one of my favorite characters and I loves reading about her and her talent in martial arts.

Dear ms. kimball
I am going to explain my top 3 favorite books/series and why!
At number 3 I pick the Percy Jackson series. This series was great, Until heroes of Olympus came along, But that's another story. This was a series that got me and many other kids deep into greek mythology, It had a story that ran through your mind like a movie and great characters you could always relate to. This series was a one shot wonder for me, and having Percy's memory wiped in the Heroes Of Olympus, It just seemed like Riordan was not even trying.
At number 2 would be Space Case though I am reading the book right now It makes out for a good mystery and science fiction, It always makes me laugh on the inside when Dash keeps listing about how MBA (moon base alpha) is the wort place to be.
You can also feel the feelings dash is having where he is anxious to tell everyone what has happened. (not going to say because spoilers!)
At number 1 is. . . *drum roll* WONDER!
This book took a place in my heart when I read the first sentence. This book showed me a lot of things, I have always had empathy and this book showed me It was okay to show empathy, I also became less shy and spoke, interacted and made friends with way more people. This book had a story line where you wouldnt take your eyes off it even if there was a tornado creeping up to your house, It also made you cry and weep in the happiest of times. And if you haven't read it, I recommend buy it about... NOW!

Dear Ms. Kimball:
My top three favorite books are "Walk Two Moons," "Wings Of Fire" (series) and "The Mysterious Benedict Society."
"Walk Two Moons" is a realistic fiction book about a 12-year-old girl named Sal who is trying to figure out why her mom mysteriously disappeared. In flash forwards and flashbacks between the story all the way from Kentucky to Colorado, Sal meets many people along her journey. Will she ever find her mom, and will her dad ever remarry?
This is one of my favorites because it is humorous, emotional, sad, and has a lot of description and detail.
Another favorite is "The Wings of Fire" series. It is about five dragonets (baby dragons) who are destined to save the world from a horrible war that's been happening for years. In this fantasy fiction novel, the dragonets must pick one of Queen Oasis's three princesses in order to end the war in time before every dragon is left dead on the ground.
I liked "Wings of Fire" because it has some humor in it, like "Walk Two Moons." It is gory, which I don't love but is good in an action-packed book.
Finally, I chose "The Mysterious Benedict Society." This fictional novel starts off with "the tests," which each year test children around the world about everything you could imagine. Raynie, a really intelligent boy living at an orphanage, sees the mysterious ad for "the tests" and thinks "this looks interesting -- I should go." Raynie makes it to the final stage of the tests, and succeeds. That's when Mr. Benedict gives Raynie an important mission. Will he fail or accomplish this dangerous mission?
This book is different than most other books that a child would read. It is in two categories of its own: mystery and fiction.

Dear Ms. Kimball,
My favorite book is probably divergent. I really like divergent because it has an interesting plot where a bunch of people get put into a locked city and don't know what is outside of the fence. I also really like this book because the author makes it feel like you are in the book too. Another really good thing about this book is that the author gets you to really like a character and then she does it again with another charecter. So eventually you get to like most of the charecters.

My second favorite book is most likely Theodore Boone The Kid Lawer. It is about a kid who knows everything about the law and is always trying to solve cases. I this is a really good book because it is funny and serious at the same time. For example he has an uncle who is really funny but Theo is really serious so it is funny to see them together.

The last book on my list is The Fourth Stall. It is about a kid who runs a buissiness in the fourth stall in the bathroom. The kid doesn't always take money for his job though, he also takes favors. For example one kid wanted to take a girl to the movies but the tickets were sold out however Mac knew a person at the movie theaters who owed him a favor. It turned out that the boy who worked at the movie theater had to sneak them into the movie. I really like this book because it is funny, sad, exciting, and somewhat scary.

Dear ms.kimball,

My favorite book is called the lost children. I like it because it's all about mysteries and adventure. I recommend this book to anyone who likes action and adventurous books. Josephine is the main character in this book. She doesn't have many friends because her father is the mayor. He made a law that everyone would have to wear gloves. One day something really weird happens to Josephine before her dad gets home.

My second favorite book is call Out of my mind. I love this book so much it's happy but can also almost make you cry. This book is about a eleven year old girl who has cerebral palsy. She can control her body sometimes. Melody is put into a classroom with kids that only have disabilities. Melody is very smart but everyone thinks the opposite. Read the story to figure out what melody goes through every day.

My last favorite book is called jake and lily. This book is about two very close twins growing up. As jake and lily get older Jake finds some friends in the neighborhood. Lily has trouble with friends. All of jakes friends don't like her because she's a girl. Read the book to read everything jake and lily go trough together and without each other.

Hi Ms.Kimball,
One of my top three favorite books is WALK TWO MOONS by Sharon Creech. Salamanca Tree Hiddle is a thirteen year old girl who is devastated by her mother's leaving her and her father is encouraged by her "Gram" and "Gramps" into going on a road trip to Idaho where her mother is. During the drive, Sal is begged by Grams to tell the story of her adventures with her new friend Phoebe, whose mother left her too, and the obstacles the two girls encountered while trying to find out why the mother left and where she is. I LOVE this book because it is a eno of a kind, what I mean b that is I have never read a book like “WALK TWO MOONS”. Also that every time I read it I feel like crying.
My 2nd favorite book is “WONDER” by R.J PALACIO. I liked this book because it has a strong meaning, and it is more that simply “DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER”. The book is about a boy with a facial deform and he starts school for the first time at Beecher Preparatory.
My 3rd favorite book is SISTERS GRIMM by by Michael Buckley and illustrated by Peter Ferguson. The book is about two orphaned sisters that are trying to find out what happened to their parents. Everytime they get new “parents” they always escape and land up back into the foster home. I like this book because it has mystery, suspense and also is VERY funny!

3of my favrot books are Because Of Mr.turupt, Truble with rules, and Judy moody (all of them but) saves the world. I will start with because of mr.turupt. I am only up to page 66 but I love it SO much so far. The book is in 7 different perspective.They all go to school but I don't know how to sumerize it sorry.:( The Truble With Rules is about a girl who is friends with a boy but at there school they have to pretend not to be. She did a BAD spelling mistake and it runes there friendship. Mwa ha ha the rest you need to find out yourself. Last but not least Judy Moody Saves The World is about how Judy learns about the inviorment in science and wants to save the world! But her family does not like that idia. Later they have a bottle dive and they rase a Loy of money that they use for a foundation that they plant trees for a dollar. I hope that you READ and enjoy these books;).

Dear Ms Kimball,

My top three favorite books are I Funny, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Green Eggs and Ham. I wil start with I Funny by James Patterson. This is my favorite book of all time. This book is about a boy named Jamie who lives with his aunt and her family. He calls them the "Smileys" because they never smile. Jamie tells lots of funny jokes and riddles like "Laugh, and the world laughs with you, fart, and they'll stop laughing." "A day without sunshine is like, you know, night." Here is a question you might ask yourself, "Do zombie's eat donuts with their fingers? Nope, they eat their fingers separately!" Jamie is trying to become the planet's funniest kid comic and he practices everywhere he goes.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling is my 2nd favorite book. I love all of the Harry Potter books, but this one is my favorite. I am still reading it, but so far, I love it! Harry is a wizard who's parents died when he was a little baby. He found out that he was a wizard when he was eleven.The school Harry attends is called Hogwarts, they have very high security. During the past 6 years, Voldemort (who is evil) has tried to kill Harry many times. I know every time I put the book down my heart is beating fast, its really exciting.

Green Eggs and Ham is my 3rd favorite book because it is the first book I ever read. I think it is very clever and funny. it is about a character named Sam trying to get his friend to eat green eggs and ham. I have lots of great memories reading this book, and I have enjoyed it form the first time I read it up until now.

Those are my three favorite books. I think soon another one will be Because of Mr. Terupt.

Dear Ms.Kimball,
One of the books that I just had to put in my top three books is This Book Is Not Good For You by the same author as the author of The Name Of This Book Is Secret.I don't know why, I just really enjoyed his series. His books are full of suspense, action, and lots and lots of mystery. When two unlikely heroes Case and Max-ernest stumble upon a dead magicians home, they end up getting themselves into a huge mystery. I highly recommend this book to readers looking for adventure.

Another great book I suggest you to read is Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. When Harry Ron and Herminey find out that Lord Voldmort is on the loose again the three friends end up breaking so many school rools I can't even name them all. To top it all off a lot of good people die and get hurt, Harry even blows up into stress. I recommend this book to readers who like magic, art's, and wizardry.

My final suggestion of a book is The Dragon Of The Lonely Island. When Zachary and is his two other sisters come to visit there grandparents for the summer they end up on a lonely island. were a dragon rome's around stalking it prey ready to pounce at any second. except this dragon is friendly to them plays with them loves them and even protect's them. But is there new friend to big of a secret literally, or will they just not budge and stay with the dragon for the rest of there lives. You can find out by going to your local public library and reading this book. I suggest this book to readers who like descriptive detailed laugh out loud books. All an all this is my opinion of my top three books. You could have a different top three or you could have the same top three, but just like life always remember to try new things. In this case always remember to try new books.

Dear Ms.Kimball,
My first favorite book is When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. My second favorite book is Out Of My Mind by Sharon Draper. My third favorite book is Sleep away girls by Jen Calonita.

When You Reach Me is about a girl, Miranda. Miranda lives with her mom and her mom's boyfriend. There is a very weird man that lives on the corner of Miranda's street. The very weird man's name that everyone calls him is the laughing man. Miranda's mom is auditioning for a game show and Miranda practices with her mom a lot. I choose this book for one of my favorites because the book is so interesting and you never want to put the book down.

My second favorite book is Out Of My mind by Sharon Draper. Out Of My mind is about a girl named Melody and she has cerebral palsy. Melody can't communicate with the outside world. Melody can't walk, talk ,and she had limited use of her arms. Melody is the smartest girl in her school but no one knows it. Melody finally can communicate with the outside world. I chose Out Of My Mind for one of my favorite books because it is a really good book to know how some ones life is so different than yours.

My third favorite book is Sleep away girls by Jen Calonita. Sleep away girls is about a girl named Sam and it's her first time being a CIT at the whispering Pines Sleep away camp. Sam's camp experience starts off by being hit in the head with a dodge ball. In the story Sam learns new things and explores new and exciting things. I choose Sleep away girls for one of my favorite books because I go to sleep away camp just like Sam. I have a lot to relate with Sam.

Dear Ms.Kimball,

I love so many stories it's hard to pick three as my favorite! But, I think "The One I Left Behind", "The Winter People" by Jenifer McMahon, and "Island Of the Blue Dolphins" by Scott O'Dell were my favorites.

The One I Left Behind I have written about many times, but, I will write about again! The One I Left Behind is about a girl named Regina, but everyone calls her Reggie. When she was thirteen her mother was taken away by a killer named Neptune. Her mothers hand arrived at the steps of the police office as usual, but, five days later, her body wasn't there. 25 years later, Reggie became a successful architect and lived far from her hometown, Brighton Falls, and had almost completely forgot about her past, when she gets a call saying her mother was found alive. I love this story because it keeps you guessing at what will happen ALL THE TIME.

Next, is The Winter People. This book was written in four perspectives. Candace, Kate, Ruthie, and Sara. Sara's perspective is the backstory. West Hall, Vermont, has always been a creepy town with strange happenings. Particularly around this one house where Sara Harrison Shea lived. Sara was found dead, skinned alive in her yard only months after her daughters death. I love this book so much because everything seems so out of place, all the perspectives seemed to have no reason to be there, and it all comes together without you knowing.

Last is Island Of The Blue Dolphins. When Karana is twelve she was left with her younger brother on an island alone. Shortly later her brother dies, and she has to survive for eighteen years! I love this story because she finds many things she never knew about and it really got me interested.

Dear Ms. Kimball,

One of my favorite stories is called, “Frozen”. First, Elsa and Anna, the two princesses of Arendelle, were first kind to each other, but Elsa, who is elder, she has powers to freeze everything in the world. One day her powers hit Anna, the younger sister’s head. Then the king and queen, their parents, decided to keep her powers hidden to everyone, including Anna.

The second story I like is “Jodie’s daddy is a Garbageman”. First, when Jodie, an introvert girl, when her friends laughed, “Jodie’s dad is a garbageman!” she didn’t like it. But one day, she and her dad went to her dad’s work. There was garbage all over the ground, but Jodie’s dad picked them all up. After that, even though Jodie’s friends made fun of her dad that he is a garbageman, she didn’t hate it.

The last story I like is “Who did Patrick’s homework”. Patrick always hated doing homework. He played basketball, baseball, and Nintendo instead. His teacher told him, “PATRICK! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! OR YOU WON’T LEARN A THING!” Then on St. Patrick’s day, he saved an elf from a cat. In return, the elf decided to do Patrick’s homework until the semester ends. Patrick couldn’t believe how lucky he was! The elf started to do his homework, except there was a glitch. The elf didn’t know a lot of words. He told Patrick, “Get me a dictionary. No, what’s even better. Look up the word and sound it out by each letter.”

When it came to math, the elf said, “What are time tables? Is it addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division? Here. Sit beside me. You must guide me. Patrick always went to school with his eyes puffed and bleary. Finally the last day of school arrived and he got his A’s. his classmates and the teacher was so amazed! His parents wondered what happened to Patrick. He was now the model kid. The person who did Patrick’s homework was not the elf, Patrick had done it himself!

One of my top three books is a dutch book called Ravelijn. It's one of my top three books because it's adventures and mysterious. The reason it's adventures is because there's a lot of sword fighting and machines that are evil. It's mysterious because when 5 kids go in the woods and find a secret gate they go threw it and they become adults and are in the middle ages. This is mysterious because why is there a random gate in the middle of a forest and why is when they go threw it they become adults.

Another book of my top 3 books is a book called Son of neptune in the heroes of olympus series. It's in one of my top 3 books because it teaches about greek mythology in a fun way and it's my favorite book in that series because Percy Jackson finally comes in that series and that the first book in the Heroes of Olympus that includes Percy.

The last book in my top 3 books is Scorpia in the Alex Rider series. I like that book because in my image it's the best one. The reason I like it is because it's adventures it takes place in England and Alex is an MI6

Dear Ms.Kimball

Another one of my favorite books was When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead.It's about a girl who got notes about someone who get's notes about how someone will come to save her friend Sal's life.This book is kind of about friendships and how there always there even if there gone.I like this book because it's very unusual and unique.

Another one is A Wrinkle In Time.It's about a girl named Meg who travel's through space and time to find her father.And while trying to do that she saves the universe from darkness.And when they travel they discover that the universe is a lot different then they think.I like this book because I love space stuff and how it leaves you wondering if the story could be true.
