Commenting Guidelines

How to leave a comment:
Please leave a comment on our posts!! Please use your first name only so as not to identify a child. Thank you!

Leaving a comment is as simple as this…

1. Click on the heading of the post you wish to comment on.
   
2. Scroll down until you can see the “Leave a Reply” section.
3. You will be asked for your name. Be sure to only use your first name. 
4. You do not need to fill in the "email address" or "website" fields. 
5. Write your comment in the "Comment" field. If your comment is long, type it on Google Docs first so you can save your work. This way, you won't risk losing your work to a glitch on the website. Then copy and paste your writing into the "Comment" field.
6. Proofread your comment for any mistakes.
7. Click “submit.”
8. Your comment WILL NOT appear right away. It is sent to Ms. Kimball via email for checking first. If your comment is okay, it will soon appear on the site!

How to write a good quality comment:

1. Write your comment like a letter starting off with “Hi Ms. Kimball's Class,” or “Dear Ms. Kimball,” or "Dear Julia," and end it with a closing like "Sincerely," or "Yours Truly," and use your first name only.
2. Focus your response on the particular point or points stated in the post. If responding to my Reading Response prompts  , make sure to address each part of the prompt. Be thoughtful and add meaningful remarks. 
3. Use complete sentences and watch out for run-on sentences that need punctuation. Also, please no "text talk."
4. Check your comment for correct spelling, spacing, punctuation, and meaning before you submit it. 
5. Don’t reveal any personal information about yourself in your comment. Be sure to use your first name only, no last names please.
6. Be nice!

Timeline for Commenting:

• On Sunday evenings, I post a blog entry on the Reading Response Blog that has a prompt for students to respond to about their reading.
• By Friday, students should have posted a thoughtful reply to my prompt.
  
• By Sunday, students should either comment on another student's response, or write back to me once I respond individually to them. I encourage students to do both, but only one is required.
