Propose a Perk for Pine Hill Project

As an extension of our Opinion Writing unit, students created proposals trying to persuade the Pine Hill School Council to buy something for the school. Students' ideas ranged from swimming pools to air conditioners to talent shows to technology. Each student wrote a persuasive letter, compiled a budget of expenses, and created a visual representation to convince the school council to fund their idea.

Dear Pine Hill School Council,

Have you ever had a talent, but not just an every day talent, one that you can't just show your family and friends on any random day? Well, that's why Pine Hill should have a talent show! It would make Pine Hill a better place for kids.

One reason that we should clearly have a talent show is to let kids show their unusual and not academic side. You may be asking, “why is this important?” And I have an answer and that answer is it's important because kids non academic skill could influence a future job. For example a child's great voice could start a job as a singer. And that's not all! Its also good because it lets kid get there silly out because it bad to keep it all bottled up. It's hard to disagree that kids should be kids. Additionally kids that feel like they don't fit in could show other kids what they're all about.

Another reason that we should clearly have a talent show is that kids could get together and socialize. I believe that without socializing kids can't let things go or get stuff off their chest. Also everybody needs a friend and a break sometimes. And this is an opportunity to make some friends and just have a break. And just think about this could you ever survive without your best childhood buddy? NO YOU CAN'T or at least I can't!

And I know what you're thinking how are we going to make back the money that we spent? Well I happen to have an answer it could be a fundraiser for the school! The school needs extra money for books and desks for classrooms that don't have them. And clearly we should give a little back and that's why we could donate the extra money to a breast cancer charity because october is breast cancer awareness month!

As you can see a we should have a Pine Hill talent show because we should let kids show their unusual and non academic side, Kids can socialize and just have a break, and it could be a fundraiser for the school and breast cancer.

Obviously we need to know how much we're spending and I did the math.

Why We Should Have a Ropes Course at Pine Hill

Dear School Committee,
Imagine you hear swish of ropes colliding as a kid swoops by. I think that we should build a ropes course at pine hill.

One reason we should build a ropes course is that there's a lot of teamwork involved. For example, when you're up on a ropes course and someone is slower than you are, you don’t shout at them to go faster! You cheer them on or help them get across faster. Also this is a great time for teachers to get there students to start having teamwork as life skill. Teamwork is always a helpful skill in a meeting. Lastly, on the ropes course there is no pressure to do this. But there will always be a team of students cheering “GO CLASS!”

Another reason we should build a ropes course is that It will make kids a lot stronger. For example with a ropes course you will be useing a lot of upper body strength. I’ve done research and according to FITDAY If you don’t have upper body strength back pains will come in the future. Another example is that some kids don’t have time to exercise outside of school. If we had a ropes course the amount of energy necessary from day to day would be filled.

The last reason we should have a ropes course is that it would motivate kids to stay active. For example I don't think that a kid could resist a ropes course right in front of them. Also kids would think what kid has free access to a ropes course? They would feel very lucky.

Please consider because there is a lot of teamwork involved, it would make kids a lot stronger, and it would motivate kids to exercise.

Dear school council,
I believe that the school should install air conditioning in each classroom.

How would you feel if you were stuck in a burning hot room for 6 hours a day for 5 days a week? That is what all of the students feel like in the summer. Would anybody be able to focus if they are burning hot? In fact nobody can focus if they are too hot. What about the teachers? No teacher would want to teach if no one is paying attention!

Clearly everybody agrees that the school NEEDS air conditioning. I know what you are thinking can the student focus if the AC is too loud? Never fear! These days the internet sells everything including very quiet portable AC. Again who would want to teach a room full of student that are too hot and sweaty to listen to what the teacher is saying?

It’s hard to disagree that the janitors would have a lot of work installing them and taking them out in the winter but we can get portable AC. So the janitor doesn’t need to do all that work! Also they will have a lot more time to keep the school nice and shiny! With a pay of $10.00 for each installation.

Air condition doesn’t actually cost that much. Walmart sells portable AC for about $400.00. If there are 22 classrooms in the school it is only about 8,800.00 dollars! Plus custodian’s pay for the installation is 10 dollars per classroom. Which brings it to about 9,000 dollars. With a few more fundraisers we’ll be there in no time! Each fundraiser will raise at least 3,000 if the school has maybe 3 fundraisers we will have definitely enough for AC.

Now do you think the school should consider installing air conditioning?

We Should Have a Trampoline Park October 14,2015

Dear School Council,

Wouldn't you just love for the teachers not to watch over the students when it is indoor recess so they can eat their lunch and strengthen their brain and relax their brain so they can teach in a good mood and teach better than before. Wouldn't it be better if the teachers just needed to have their time to relax without getting a headache from their students. I believe that Pine Hill should get a indoor trampoline park.

The reasons why having a place for indoor recess benefits to having a trampoline park is because if someone is stress and we had a indoor trampoline park the student can go jump around and his mind will be off what he was stressed about. Another reason why we should get a indoor trampoline park is because when a person jumps around they get tired so that would get all the sillies out of them before class starts again. A reason we should get a indoor trampoline park is because when we have indoor recess we need to go to a teacher's room and the teacher of that room watches the students while it is their time to eat and relax. But if we had a indoor trampoline park then the teacher can relax and eat their food.

How a trampoline park keeps people healthy is by jumping around it helps the lungs. How jumping around helps people's lungs is by jumping you are breathing out fast so that helps your lungs get healthier and stronger. Also if Pine Hill had a trampoline park the students heart gets healthier. The students hearts will get way more healthier because by jumping around your heart beats quickly which makes your heart healthier and stronger. Another reason why Pine Hill should get a trampoline park is because it will make the students muscles stronger. The students muscles will get stronger because by jumping around your muscles are getting stronger. It is really important for students to get a good workout so they can stay strong and healthy.

A trampoline park is good for the teachers because then the teachers could have a time where they can just get some exercise by jumping around because teachers can't really get a exercise with school in the way. Another reason that a trampoline park is good for teachers because if they are frustrated or having a really bad day then jumping on the trampoline will get their mind off their bad day. As you can see a trampoline park is good for teachers too.

Extra reward goes into having a trampoline park because the teachers can use the trampoline park as a treat for his/her students. It is good to use a trampoline park for
extra reward because then the students will try harder in their learning so they can jump around.Another reason why Pine Hill should have a trampoline park is because than the teachers can use the trampoline park to make their kids behave such as if the teacher said “if you guys behave then maybe we can go to the trampoline park” and that will encourage the students be quiet. As you can see if Pine Hill had a trampoline park then the teachers can “bribe” their students to behave.

In conclusion if Pine Hill should have a trampoline park because then the students can have a place for indoor recess, a trampoline park will make the students healthier, and the trampoline park can be used for extra reward. I believe that if Pine Hill had a trampoline park then the students can be very healthy.

Dear pine hill school,

Vending Machines Tommy 10-6-15

I am all for having vending machine’s in the cafeteria.

One reason to support that is it costs less money. If you go to buy a snack, it would cost you about $1.00-$1.50. For a vending machine, it would cost you about $.75-$1.00. Then, maybe they could put all the snacks they order in the vending machine, and the same snacks you buy at high prices could be lowered in a vending machine!

It would also be easier for the lunch ladies. Every time a “pesky” student asks for a snack, they’re usually in the middle of something important. Like a phone call or a report. More importantly, ordering more food! But they wouldn’t have to worry about ordering snacks. Just lunch! The only thing they would have to worry about with the vending machines is expiration dates and refills. That means saving money and less stress for the school and the lunch ladies.

Sometimes you would have to wait a long time to get a snack. Sometimes, another grade is waiting for their lunches. That means going to the end of another grades line! That could take 10-12 minutes about! If you kept on waiting you could miss 1\4 of your recess! OUCH! With a vending machine on the other hand, you wouldn’t have to miss any recess!

If you are thinking vending machines only hold unhealthy items, that’s not true. The people who own the machines get to decide to what will be in it. It could evan be a bag of carrots or a granola bar. This could be the best could get kids in shape and ready for recess!

In conclusion, a vending machine could do good in so many ways, and save money.

Dear Mom and Dad,

Could I redesign the whole house? You would probably say no. Then………… what about letting me redesign my room, only my room? Do you need more information? Here it goes.

How would you feel if my room described me? On empty days I would have something to do. And I could enjoy my room better. Letting me redesign my room would be a good thing. Here are some reasons why you should let me redesign my room.

A reason you should let me redesign my room is then my room would describe me. For example my walls would be black with aqua splatter paint, instead of wallpaper with olden time people. You would know that room is mine because black and aqua are my favorite colors. Is that inserting?

Another reason you should let me redesign my room is on my empty days I would have something to do. For example on Mondays instead of doing my homework and then checking my email, I could do my homework and then I could be ordering bed sheets or painting the walls of my room

The last reason is so I could enjoy my room better. For example I have a very airy room but I work better and enjoy stuffy rooms much more and I could make a stuffy room if you let me redesign my room. I would love to put more things on the walls like paintings, mirrors, and other cool things I that I would like on my walls.

Cleary a famous person once said that being able to redesign your own room is a terrific idea (P.S. the famous person is August Sanders).
