To learn more about why we have weather, students investigated how hot and cold interact with each other. I allowed them to come up with their own experiment where they mixed hot and cold water in two jars. Nothing remarkable happened except we combined water. Lame!
To improve the experiment, students came up with a wide range of suggestions. The ones we decided on were: get hotter and colder water, use food coloring to see the hot water, and make a handle to lower the jar of hot water slowly into the cold water. They worked! Students witness a very excited interaction. You will have to ask them about it to get the full details. Here are some fun pictures of students having fun at the end of the experiment.
