Hi Families, Happy Weekend! The learning train continues to chug on in 2nd grade. We had a good week. Adjectives were a big theme this week in all subjects as we read about them in our fluency work, used them in our writing about characters, and generated them in science to describe properties of matter. Our class Valentines Day Party will take place Tuesday afternoon. Students can exchange valentines (if they want to), play games, and make crafts. Thank you to the parent volunteers who signed up to help make this day extra special. A note when home today about the Valentine’s Day party and the Secret Snack. Please have students bring in a bag or box on Tuesday to collect any valentines they receive as gifts. Next week is Spirit Week!
Pictures! Below, students working on math and science activities. In one science activity, students learned that "matter takes up space" as I crammed them together in a small circle. Community Building Fun times this week! Students continue to show kindness to one another. We had a couple class conversations to address some challenges (ex. not coming to the rug area when called and delaying instruction), but by the end of the week, everyone was doing their part and following expectations and directions. I was very heartened at the encouraging words students give to one another when a peer overcomes a personal challenge. Literacy Our literacy work this week consisted of:
Writing Students began brainstorming and planning a literary essay about a character from Winnie the Pooh. We jotted adjectives, verb phrases, and nouns about the character and then pulled them together to compose a thoughtful, complex topic sentence. Phonics Our phonics work this week focused on:
