5th Grade Math Help Page
On this page you will find resources and links to videos I've selected from sites like The Khan Academy and Math Playground to demonstrate concepts. Hope they are helpful!
Place Value, Order of Operations, and Exponents
- Place Value (Khan Academy) --a demo of place value concepts; helpful for students who have trouble recognizing that the "9" in 398 represents 90 or 9x10 or 9 tens, not just 9)
- Subtraction with Trading (Khan Academy) --helps students who struggle with trading before subtracting
- Order of Operations: PEDMAS (Math Playground)
- Order of Operations (Khan Academy)
- Meaning of Exponents (Khan Academy) --basic overview

- Multiplication: Multi-digit Numbers (Khan Academy)
- 50 Facts Tests: download copies of the timed multiplication tests we use to practice instant multiplication fact recall. All 4 versions of the test are here!
- Fact Triangles: practice multiplication and division facts. They are better than flash cards because they teach the multiplication AND division relationship together. Print and cut out the triangles. Cover the large number for multiplication practice. Cover one of the smaller numbers for division practice. Hope this helps!
